Brief Create a cohesive design including a logo, journal cover stamp graphic, encouragement/resource card, and inspirational quote print. These designs would work together as part of a package for families caring for a loved one with a traumatic brain injury (TBI). The hope was that these packets would be available at the hospital as families learn about their loved one’s needs with a TBI. Also included in the toolbox was a mask, an extra long phone charger, and a pen to write with.
Challenge The project started with an abstract idea and a short list of needs (listed above). The designs needed to be calming and not distracting from the purpose. Much exploration was done to achieve the client’s needs and style preferences.
Process To start, I looked for imagery and fonts that would convey helpful and calming vibes while still looking clean and easy to digest.
From this exploration, I put together 9 concepts for the client to consider before moving forward. We combined the font and shape of two different concepts.
From there, I created a template for the resource card and we filled in the final encouragements and resource links. I also finished a few concepts for the journal stamp and waited for notes on which design to move forward with. “Think it. Ask it. Write it.” were encouragements chosen to empower each family to ask questions and keep track of what was going on in the process.
The last step was to create a print that would go on the back of the resource card. The purpose of this print was to give families encouragement as well as something visually interesting to keep with them as they continued on this journey.
Once we had all of the designs finalized and final content locked, digital files were sent to the client to be printed and compiled as a completed package.
Impact Once assembled, these toolboxes were featured at the Miss California International pageant. There was interest from attendees to implement this resource in other hospitals.
